Details

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the suicide risk has been a concern in Malaysia community.  Economic uncertainty, loneliness, fear of visiting health facilities due to the risk of infection, and the loss of one's usual coping mechanisms such as socialising, group sports and travelling contribute to mental health problems. Therefore, as part of the community and a professional helper, we play an important role in addressing the abovementioned issue.

This year, in support of World Suicide Prevention Day, the non-profit counselling organizations (Kuching Bodhi Counselling Centre, Befrienders) and higher education institute (SEGi Group of Colleges) are collaborating to organize a series of online talks, online emotional support sessions and workshops in the aim to address the following objectives:

  1. Encourage immediate actions by individuals in suicidal crisis by educating the public about warning signs and risks factors of suicide
  2. Raise the awareness of public, especially the people who need help to improve individual help seeking by providing available help to the public
  3. Improve the responsiveness and literacy in general public by normalizing the discussion of mental health and draw public attention to the seriousness of suicide risk through social media campaign
